Entrepreneur Antonio Junior of Miami, Florida, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami (UM). Antonio Junior serves as co-chair of the UM Black Alumni Society’s First Black Graduates Project Committee, which organized UTrailblazers, a series of events held February 24-25, 2017, at UM’s Coral Gables campus. The celebration honored men and women who blazed the trail for racial integration at UM during the 1960s and 1970s.
Following registration and a guided bus tour around the campus, the UTrailblazer exhibition at the Otto G. Richter Library featured a reception and a lecture by history professor Donald Spivey. The Opening Ceremony had as keynote speaker attorney Harold Long, past president and a founder of United Black Students.
More events followed the second day, capped by the UTrailblazers Gala, which paid tribute to all the black graduates of the 1960s and 1970s. During the gala, recognition was also given to distinguished UTrailblazers and funds were raised for scholarships.
